Golden Pathways B&B - Going Green
Before we built Golden Pathways Retreat and B&B – we lived beside a landfill site (an unwelcome intruder – but that is another story) – so we have been highly conscious of being environmentally friendly for many years before it became “trendy” or “popular”
Here are some other things that we are doing:
Doing Laundry Without Soap. We installed the Laundry Pure system in late 2007. It is amazing to me how you can do laundry without soap and softeners, use cold water, be kind to the environment, reduce allergic possibilities and get great soft, clean clothes.
In April 2008, Wayne Glancy organized an educational opportunity and I am a star.

In our Retreat and B&B we:
- Do laundry with out soap – Check out the link above
- Use Eco Friendly cleaning programs
- Wash the floors without soap using H2O Steam cleaner
- Keep the temperature a few degrees higher in summer and lower in winter to reduce need for energy
- Utilize windows to maximize sunlight
- Had an excellent builder who built a high quality, air tight structure which does not leak heat
- Had overhangs built to reduce heat as the angle of the sun changes in the seasons
- Use reusable dishes, silverware and other washable items
- Recycle everything possible
- Buy locally at the Farmers Market and use our own farm products
- Moving to low Kwh bulbs
- Weed – a lot
- Buy groceries in tote bags made from recycled plastic
- Turn out unnecessary lights
- Much of the furniture is made from fallen trees on our farm
In our office we use:
- Recycled toner and ink
- A laptop to use less energy
- No screensavers
- E-billing as it is available
And yes there is more we can do and we will be adding new practices as we identify them
Heating hot water with solar I am currently in the process of applying for government funding for an innovative new technology.
